
The Friends of the Auburn Public Library is an independent, non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to raising money through donations, book sales and other activities, and to donate those funds to the Library for materials, services and programs not funded through the municipal budget.

All proceeds of the book sale will be used to fund and enhance services, expand programs and purchase other extraordinary items not included in the library budget.

What are donation days?
Those are days that the public may donate their gently used books, CDs, and DVDs to the Friends.
When do the Friends hold book donation days?
The Friends posts the days in the Library lobby, on the Library website under Friends, and on the Facebook group page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/friendsofauburnplibrary
Where do I bring items I wish to donate?
The drop off location is in the rear of the Library at the garage door.
May I bring donated items to the Library Circulation desk?
Small donations (up to 1 bag or box) may be donated at the Library Circulation desk during operating hours. For larger amounts, please contact the Friends at friendsofauburnplibrary@gmail.com to arrange a time. The Friends is a group of citizens SEPARATE from the library staff, who volunteer their time to help financially support the Auburn Public Library. Book Donations and Book Sales are a project of the Friends, not the Library.
How many books may I donate?
Please limit your donation to (2) bags or (2) boxes per visit due to space limitations. The Friends may accept larger donations on an appointment basis. Please contact friendsofauburnplibrary@gmail.com to make arrangements.
Are there guidelines for the type of book donation the Friends accepts?
The Friends accepts clean, GENTLY used hardcover and softcover books, CDs, and DVDs for both adults and children. Please, no books that are heavily marked up/highlighted, missing pages or otherwise torn, damaged or dirty. The items will be offered for sale and should be in good condition.
Do the Friends accept other items besides books and CDs/DVDs?
Not at this time. The Friends does not accept magazines, textbooks, dictionaries, religious books, encyclopedia sets, puzzles, VHS tapes or LP records
Where do I buy books from the Friends?
The Friends offers books for sale in the lobby of the Auburn Public Library. Prices are posted in the lobby. Also, the Friends holds a BIG Book Sale at the Library several times a year. Look for our flyers, and postings in the Lobby, on our Facebook group page and on the Library website under Friends for dates and times.
How can I make a monetary donation to the Friends?
Fill out the donation form in the Friends brochure. Mail your donation as directed in the brochure or place in the cash box in the Library lobby. The brochure is available in the lobby of the Library or on the Library website under Friends.
Is my donation tax deductible?
The Friends is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. You can claim a deduction for the full value of your gift as allowed by law. The Friends will mail you a receipt for your monetary donation noting our tax exempt status. Receipts may be requested for book donations at the time of the donation.
How do I become a member of the Friends?
Our brochure is available in the Library lobby and on the Friends tab of the Auburn Public Library website. Fill out the information section and follow the instructions for payment.
